[Recaps] White Collar Season 1 / Episode 6 - All In

1x06: All In

This episode starts with Neal and his hot hat walking down the street en route to the office with Peter. The first thing that happens is Lauren tells Burke his superior wants to see him. Turns out that an undercover agent has gone missing, they looking at Peter getting a gigantic lecture. Cruz believes she's being called, but it's Neal that they want to go upstairs.

He seems to be playing with domino chips as he explains that this missing agent was posing as a drug dealer for a chinese man into money laundering. Then why Caffrey is there? Because of one of his multiple aliases, they will send him to Chinatown to play an underground version of chinese poker with domino chips, that Neal drops. Of course, at first he claims ignorance, but looks like our boy with blue eyes knows more than we think. Credit sequence.

According to Mozzie, the best way to learn the game is by watching a Chinese movie! Haha! :) And Neal disagrees with him. Both are looking for something to bet the next night, and I'm loving Mozzie's impersonation. He seems to know how the game works. They cut the movie and start thinking something more rational and practice. Let me just remind you that they are at Neal's pad, and that the woman that houses him brings them food and asks them not to start without her when watching the sequel.

Next, he's at the FBI officer with Jones and Peter. They tell him how it's gonna be...in a restaurant in Chinatown. And that is our next scene at: They go visit another Chinese man that wants Lao (or something like that) out of the neighborhood. As it is the oriental customs, they all take their shoes off before walking into an apartment, but Peter seems to have a problem...he's ashamed of his animal-printed socks that Elizabeth gifted him. At the apartment, a little girl takes something from them, and as Peter asks it back, he makes her cry. On the contrary, Neal does some magic with a card and she is happy.

Before the meeting, they explain Neal on what he's supposed to do when getting there as Peter hands him the gold watch we've seen a few episodes ago. But Caffrey points out a problem: his tracker. So Lauren has to chop it off for the time being. Neal looks like a one-of-a-kind man in the middle of Chinatown at night, but he gets to the place where the game will be played. He is asked to take all metallic things and is checked after passing the metal detector while back at the apartment, Jones tells them that Neal is in. Peter notices a hole on a nearby wall, and the chinese guy tells him what's up as the little girl looks on

So, back at the club he sits on a table and starts playing a hand with a man. A girl offers him a drink he toasts to in one shot. A man, that I believe is Lao, recognizes him and advises that it's better that they play another hand and discuss in private. But there is a problem, as Jones points out: Someone tipped off NYPD, so they'll be raiding the place any minute. So Peter has to run after Neal...

At the club, of course, everyone blames Neal. The crew gets there and Caffrey uses a table as a shield to run off. Outside, it's either the police or Lao's goons hunting him. But for his good luck, the chick who had offered him the drink comes to his rescue as Peter looks on: There might be a chance to salvage this plan. With that as knowledge, he asks Jones and Cruz to keep an eye as Burke has to excuse himself to Elizabeth for being late again.

The asian chick takes Neal to a beautiful room where, apparently, they'll spend a night together as she pours him a drink. Only Caffrey! Well said, Peter. She tries to get him to relax and taking off his watch that is broken. Signal lost, and Neal looks scared, at least for him. But she's not dumb and points a gun at him. The chick works for Interpol. Wow!! That's how she knew, and they're looking for him. She tells him she's after the bigger fish: Lao's boss. And things turn more complicated when she offers him a deal: If he helps her, she will tell him where Kate is.

They haven't been able to find Neal, judging by Burke's headache and lost sock. Lauren leaves, and from what I can see, he is not ready to be a father. Neal arrives to the apartment, and it takes him a bit to realize he's there. Non-traditional methods, but it worked as Jones puts the tracker back on. Seems like the undercover Interpol chick was the one to tip them off...

Neal, Peter and Lauren go to find information, and again, Burke sucks for this kind of things. He could learn from Caffrey a thing or two. But wait, he recorded it and asks Lauren to take it to a translator...that is late! She plays the tape, and the girl at the apartment might be useful as translator for the FBI. Impressive. Jones finds the name of a shell company the missing agent was investigating. Lauren knocks and the results of the woman's facial scan came back restricted, which surprises him. And to continue with the surprises, Elizabeth brings up the Kate thing as she's walking alongside her husband.

The buddies gets to what looks like a warehouse, and Peter hands Neal some tools so he can break them in. It looks like a shipping area, where they notice some marks on the floor and a spot of blood. They find the agent's body in a freezer and hear the bad guys break in, so they better think of something fast. They see the body being moved to another box. What will they do?

Neal and Elizabeth sit on the couch as Peter looks upset. There's tensions because there's trust issues, and both Burke's wife and the dog bail out on him. Looks like he's pissed for the deal Neal was offered a deal to find the endangered Kate. Peter asks for his help, otherwise the partnership is over.

Caffrey gets home and finds his landlady talk to the Interpol agent, thinking that there's a spark there. Seems like she lied to him to do her job and ruin the operation the FBI runs. And just to tease him, she tells him she knows the man who has Kate.

Inside the FBI van, Neal is given another watch with a different set of instructions as they head with the girl to a meeting. She gives him an account number the FBI won't be able to trace. Neal is searched, but there's no problem. As the transfer is done, he sees Lao stash some chips in his pocket. And he asks Lao when will they finish the game, he says now, discarding her warnings. No, Caffrey's losing! And to make matters worse, he bets the watch.. He's got a plan, and activates the signal again. The sound of domino chips alerts them as the game goes on. Come on, Neal!! He loses it, and there's complicity between both there, judging by the flash memory she gave him.

Neal arrives to the van, happy to announce they have him and everyone goes to the chinese restaurant the father of the girl owns as reward. The girl arrives and shows him the sock Burke wore the other day. As they get to the FBi, Neal gets a call from her and tells her the man that has her it's FBI. Nothing more. Neal looks sad and starts looking around, as if he distrusted of everyone.

Great episode, bring on more! :)
