3x06: Scott Free
The episode starts with Sara waking up by herself in a bed while Neal makes breakfast for both. Their moment of passion is interrupted by Peter. Sara goes to get dressed while Caffrey receives the visitor. Burke suspects what he was up to just by analysing the surroundings. Later, she comes back and explains that they're taking things a day at a time before leaving. They have their next case. That case has to do with a hacker known as the 'next Neal Caffrey' and that led them to an apartment that gathers both men with Diana. The guy isn't found there, but instead a photo collage that arranged says FBI.
Afterwards, Moz goes to Neal's place to pay him a visit and to talk about their
treasure and false identities. All Caffrey says that he'll set it up because next thing we know is that he's at the FBI conference room, where Peter is explaining that they're after a guy named Scott Rivers and that he's on a crime road trip (aka theft in disguise), leaving a signature every time it happens.
Using his expertise, Neal explains what could be Scott's motivation because he's a kid. Neal and Peter will be working together on the donations he leaves behind to try figuring out what's next.
They decide to do so from the Burkes' house, so Elizabeth joins them too. She also agrees that they're in front of a young Neal. She suggests the next item could be a motorcycle, so the two of them go to warn the owner of that motorcycle. But the owner says he's hosting a party and can't do anything about it. Eventually he gives in to have them covertly in the party. Jones and Neal are working undercover in between pretty ladies to identify the theft that is in disguise. Looks like Caffrey has found the potential target and starts chatting with him as Diana prepares the agents to move in case something goes bad. A girl named Shannon approaches him and Caffrey notices she put something in his drink. She runs off, allowing Scott to steal the motorcycle with the same M.O.
Diana is interrogating Shannon about her actions, but she claims ignorance as Peter shows Neal a security image of one of the previous thefts. Caffrey is certain that sooner or later he will commit a mistake. Among the stolen items are diamonds. It leads them to a man named Thomas Carlyle. Diana and Peter go to question Carlyle about the diamond heist. This guy acts as an arrogant to them up until something is whispered in his ear, forcing him to leave. But both FBI agents have their suspicions.
Meanwhile, Moz and Neal go to meet an associate that could help them with the new identity thing with many problems. He hands them a passport each and leaves. Now they're Victor and Bob. Moz is with Scott as he mentions that he's being followed. He creates a distraction that allows Scott to run up until he's caught by Neal and prevented of being caught by Carlyle.
At Neal's place, Sara cannot believe that Neal has decided to hide a fugitive in his place. Scott says he needs Neal's help to get Carlyle off his back. And he'll be able to do so with the help of Moz and Sara as well. Peter calls to ask if he knows where Scott may be at. We know that Caffrey has a talent for lying: He says he's with Sara. It was her that gave the idea: Scott shows them the last item he's stolen and they need him to infiltrate Carlyle's office to return the bustier and later tip Peter off by saying Carlyle stole that.
Diana brings Peter information regarding the other case as he suspects Caffrey is up to something. Moz will keep an eye on Carlyle, allowing access to Scott. He seems to know what to do and indeed acts like if Neal is his role model. They work together to break in. Next, Sara comes into the play (wearing the bustier and seducing the doorman). Scott finds out there's a different safe than last time. Meanwhile, Peter has caught track of Neal and is angered. Sara texts saying they need his help with the safe. But they run into a big complication: Carlyle is on his way to the office.
Sara informs that this guy is downstairs and Peter has flashed his back to buy some time for them all. Just in time, they crack the safe and Burke has him on his side, revealing the bustier is in his safe. Carlyle is arrested, and before he can play his last card, Jones comes in.
Scott, Neal and Sara exit the building and the two men are left alone. Scott says that he won't give himself in and Neal says that sooner or later, Peter will catch him the same way he did it with him in some sort of lesson. Before Peter and Neal can notice, Scott has disappeared.
At the FBI, Neal admits that he screwed a little but that helped to get Carlyle off the street. And for their surprise, Scott is turned into Peter becauase he caught Neal. Caffrey is curious as to why he did it and Scott admits it was because of what he said earlier.
Finally, Neal is looking at the passport of his new identity when Sara comes to pay him one of those visits that end up in kisses and a little more. But he wasn't counting on one thing: Sara finding a polynesian doll...and his new passport.
