2x11: Forging Bonds
At the FBI offices, Peter is checking press items and looking for something that can help him find Vince Adler. So far, there's nothing...until he sees a photo of Adler with Neal in the background. Speaking of Neal, he's painting at his place late at night when Peter decides to crash. Of course, he brought the picture along. For once, Burke seems more anxious than Caffrey...over beer and wine, since he wants to know everything. Full inmunity throughout the night. Knowing it's a win-win situation, he shows Peter the code Mozzie discovered and the history has to go a long way back.
This flashback illustrates Moz (much different) being victim of a street con artist and a much younger Neal, but with the same smartness. That is how they met each other (gotta say Mozzie looked strange back then!). He brought a forged bond, and Adler was the reason why they met. Credit sequence.
Those bonds were also the reason Pëter (with the Super Mario moustache) got to know Neal. ("James Bonds", funny stuff!). Him and Elizabeth had just moved into their house, and their dog was just a puppy. Back to the past, funky Moz and Neal are watching Adler, who happens to have a secret account to commit fraud. And how Neal and Peter's roads crossed for the first time. Gotta say something: The way Moz opens bottles of wine is brilliant, just like everything about him.
Neal met Adler at a fancy dinner and tried to win his trust as Nick Halden. And who happened to be Adler's assistant? Kate! Wow, that was unexpected. Is it just me or they hit it off right away? Anyways, 'Nick' says he wants to work for Adler, and for that, he sat next to him and left. But Kate had a boyfriend prior to that, and Neal's eyes show pure love towards Moreau. When remembering all this, Caffrey looks quite nostalgic, and Peter soaks up those reactions.
Anyway, Adler had shown Neal the music box fractal for the first time. And if this wasn't enough, it is then when Adler and Neal met Alex Hunter (another blast from the past!), and Adler screwed her up! 'Nick' got a reward and he invested the money. Neal bumped into Alex for many, many tims ever since. And it got VERY interesting as well. This also had explanations for the infamous yellow flower we saw last season.
Surprisingly, Kate didn't leave and instead showed up at his doorway. As Peter said it, Neal had it all, but it was all a lie. Moz lived on Chinese food, and he advised Neal that it was best to move on. My theory is that, with this job, Caffrey learnt to savor the good life he shows now. Adler figured out that sparks fly between Nick and Kate. As he talks about a hacker, Neal spots his sketch on a paper in the table. How the hell Adler didn't notice that?
He and Kate went out on what can be considered their first date at the park. Neal tells Moz that he loves her, and that is the reason why he hasn't completed the con. (and we are treated to a naked Neal. Yum!). But after a night of passion, both him and Kate watch on TV that Adler has gone missing. At the FBI, Jones and Peter meet because of this. For some reason, Burke didn't get rid of the lollipop Neal gave him and Adler scammed Caffrey.
After they lose their jobs, Neal decides to come clean with Kate so they can get it all back. And Peter wants to know more about that memory. Mozzie was quite an idiot running from the law...if you can call Neal and Kate 'the cops'. That was the start of their wild relationship and their luxury dreams, where everything was possible in the blink of an eye. But when Kate saw the flower, and he mentioned Alex, it all seemed to crash. But it was from that time that he was after the music box in Denmark. When he returned, Kate was gone.
Meanwhile, the FBI (Diana and Jones being newbies) are following Neal's every footstep. Moz comes to Neal to find out where Kate is at, but it could all be a trap. Love makes you take risks, they say.
Kate WAS at that deposit, so he goes to her encounter. She believes his words and loves him. Call it a make-up...that was a trap for the FBI to catch him. It was too good to be true, but let's call it like it is: Moreau betrayed him. So all this conversation takes us to present time, with the purpose that all that was told will help to catch Adler. That fractal is part of the frequency of an antenna, based on the origami figure Alex left. This is getting more interesting, because whatever this hides is of much worth, so they have to find Adler first.
All I have to say is 'thank you!' for this episode. About time that we needed something that allowed us to look back at the characters and answer some questions (oh, and let's not forget having a few laughs) that will help to understand this mystery better.
