1x13: Front Man
This episode starts with Neal scratching a map of Russia and surrounded by data about the Music Box. Poor thing seems stressed, so June tells him he should relax as her husband used to do the same, and that he has a visitor. It's Alex. The reason why she's there is to remind him that as long as he's with the feds, no data will come out of her mouth about the music box.They have made a deal: She will help him as long as he gets the tracker off. A win-win situation, and that she'll return tomorrow.
Next, at the FBI offices, Neal is late and Peter picks up a hair or a thread off his shoulder. He is welcomed with an unpleasant surprise: An agent from the Missing Persons Department is there because of Neal. Both are called back in, and this woman
(named Kimberly) explains what on earth she wants with Neal.
It's about a ransom case, the kidnapping of the daughter of a wealthy guy, and the possible man behind this is an ex 'friend' (if you could call it somehow) of Neal's. Kimberly asks that Caffrey be borrowed to her for the rest of her case. Peter doesn't look so happy and she immediately gets to business, asking when was the last time Neal saw this guy. And surprise...it was when he tried to kill our boy! Credit sequence.
Kimberly and Neal arrive to the house of the victim's father (Mr. Glass), to ask him questions about the disappearance. All he does is to tell things the way they happened. At a random moment, Kimberly asks Neal for a minute. It's just to scold him and she's such a bitch, by the way.
Yay! Elizabeth's back, I kinda missed her. It's clear Peter's head is somewhere else and it has to do with Neal. He has a hunch, so what better to go check it by himself? Hey, at least that'll serve him good for not paying attention to what his wife was sharing with her. And he finds Neal in the car. Looks to me like Caffrey feels useful and they comment possible theories about the kidnapping and the man behind it. It takes them to a staircase and it is then when Kimberly exists, looking for him. She sends a print for analysis and tells Peter that if he sees him again near her scene again, she'll file a report. What a bitch, I insist!
Next, we have Neal getting ready for a date or something, since he has bought a bunch of new clothes. Mozzie isn't convinced yet of this whole thing, but he's doing it for the purpose of having Alex talk to him. As he leaves, Mozzie jokingly says he keeps the apartment.
Kimberly whines that he took too long and had her waiting for half an hour. Showing a pair of scissors, she demands he cuts the tracker, otherwise he won't be going undercover with that thing inside the club (lead found in the staircase by Peter). Of course, this gets to Peter's and Jones' attention, and both suspect as to why an FBI agent would ask that he cut the tracker. He gets off the car as she watches.
The father of the kidnapped girl is at the FBI offices telling Burke that it was way too easy that the kidnapper asking Neal in exchange of the girl on a phone conversation. In that moment, he warns Caffrey to get out of there because he's the ransom. But before he can react Neal is tasered and he falls unconscious.
Since this now has become a missing person case, Kimberly thinks she has the right to be in charge. Of course, this is the cause of a confrontation between her and Peter, and their superior has to intervene. I'm with Peter here. She had him do that and now she wants to take credit. IT'S HER FAULT! Revenge is sweet, now she's in charge of Peter!
Someone lifts the hood off Neal's head and he finds out he's in a van, face to face with the enemy. What could this guy want with him? He wants him to infiltrate a travel agency for reasons I'll have to specify later on because I didn't get it the first time right. All there is to know is that he's surrounded, so he better not try anything weird that endangers the girl. So he gets off the van and heads in with a prepared cover. But the receptionist is quite a bitch....but you know? A sniper aim solves everything and makes people cooperate.
June and Mozzie are playing a board game when he gets a text with a reward discount for Rio. Neal must've been behind it. The guy finally gets what he wants that looks like an envelope with something quite important. Both are still surrounded by snipers and such, but looks like that's not the end of his tasks. Caffrey is shoved back into the van and tasered again because, apparently, he talks too much.
Back at the FBI, they are still searching for the van when Kimberly brings a disc to play. It's proof that the daughter is alive, and it is then when he catches sight of a detail: a construction site. Time to get into the investigation, friends!
Neal is shoved into where Lindsay (the kidnapped daughter) is at, and the first thing he does is assure her she'll be out soon. They even make fun of the guard taking care of them and his manners. But that is short lived because the guy comes in wearing dark gloves and asking Caffrey if he's ready for round two. For her safety, he wants to get it over with quickly.
As he's still in a briefing, Peter receives a call from Elizabeth saying Mozzie is at their place with information regarding Neal, and she's right. Mozzie and the FBI don't go together, and Mozzie even laughs at that. As they wait for Peter to arrive, she asks him what he does for a living, thing that he, of course, won't say. And he asks 'Mrs. Suit' the same. The reason he's called Peter is because of the email he got from the travel agency. That was a distress signal.
The second round consists in sidelining a limousine of a man named Thomas (whose itinerary was retrieved by Neal earlier) and for that he hands him a gun and a driver hat (part of his cover). As soon as he's done with that, they'll depart ways and he'll tell her where the girl is at. But if he screws up...you know the drill.
Simulaneously, the FBI has caught on the trail that Neal was at the travel office asking for the itinerary, and that the name is an alias for a guy with quite a dirty record. His plane will land from Sydney shortly, so if they want to avoid a disaster, they better move. But, hey...at least Peter and Kimberly have set their differences aside and are working together.
At the airport, Neal meets with them (Jones is undercover as well) and says he has no idea where he was because he was k.o. for the count. But thankfully the others have an idea. And guess who else came for the rescue: Mozzie. He hands Neal a badge before he goes to pick up this guy (whose real name is Edward Riley). He is carrying the titanium briefcase our black man wants so dearly, but Riley is such a cranky person after a long flight that he treats Caffrey like crap and doesn't allow him access. Mozzie is posing as an Immigation agent that claims he smuggled something and that they need to search it. Neal is revealed to be that as well, so he's like 'knock yourselves out'.
Their acting is awesome, though. At first, they find nothing on the overnight bag until Neal has the brilliant idea of opening it and finding a bunch of golden credit cards. At first, he gets pissed off but he is cut loose and takes only one of those.
The FBI is looking desperately to the location of the girl as Neal goes to meet with the guy. He says he can't disclose the girl's location and demands the briefcase. But surprise! It's empty. Then who has the gold cards? And what is he playing at? The guy calls his thug and demands that he kills off the girl, but it is in that moment when the FBI bursts into the place. How did they know? By the crack on the wall shown on the video. Oh, his game has been so turned over, and Jones arrests him as the father goes to reunite with his daughter. Everyone is a hero, and as Peter hands Jones the ankle tracker, Neal is gone...again.
Alex is waiting for him and he shows her no tracker, that was his part of the deal. Sadly, what she gives Caffrey in the shape of an origami flower isn't taking him nowjere near the music box. So he's there, wondering...to then return to the FBI to get his beloved tracker and a lecture from Peter about that box and the choices he has.
